Fibermark Converts Manufacturing Operations At Vermont Headquarters To Run On Used Vegetable Oil. "Green Steam" Powers the Paper Machine Turbine, Dries Papers, and Provides Heat for Plant (14343) FiberMark, a producer of specialty papers and fiber-based materials for a variety of applications, today announced that it has converted the manufacturing operations at its Vermont headquarters to be able to run up to 100% used vegetable oil. With this conversion, FiberMark has become the first manufacturer in the state of Vermont and in the paper industry to generate part of its process energy from waste biofuel. The ¡§green steam¡¨ produced by the vegetable oil not only powers FiberMark's Brattleboro paper machine turbine and dries its papers, but also provides heat for the plant.
 $61 million Renewable Energy Plant On The Drawing Board. Louisville Company Wants to Introduce its Patent-Pending Refining Process by Building a New Facility in Kentucky. (14292) A renewable energy company is raising funds and hopes Kentucky will be the home of its first facility. Louisville Clean Energy has plans for a $61 million plant to produce a variety of eco-friendly energies including ethanol, biodiesel, electricity and natural gas. Founder and chief executive Bill Bivins is looking at three possible sites in Shelby County, Kentucky and hopes to make a decision soon.
CH2M HILL Engineered, Procured, Constructed American Gypsum Plant Successfully Producing Sustainable Wallboard (14265) Spartanburg, SC, CH2M HILL Lockwood Greene, has completed the engineering, procurement and construction of a three-building, 715,000-square-foot gypsum wallboard manufacturing facility in Georgetown, South Carolina, for the American Gypsum Company. The completed plant has begun successfully producing finished wallboard and employs 100 people in the Georgetown area. Annually this new plant will produce 750 million square feet of wallboard by using waste products from nearby power plants. Local coal-fired power plants generate a synthetic gypsum by-product as the result of using scrubbing technology to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions. By using the synthetic gypsum in its gypsum wallboard production, American Gypsum converts what otherwise would be waste into a valuable and environmentally friendly building product.
